Bell peppers, also known as sweet peppers, are fruits from the species Capsicum annuum.  They are the only members of the Capsicum that do not produce capsaicin responsible for the spicy taste. Sweet Bell Peppers are loved for their mildness, their heat intensity is very low compared to habanero peppers, and as such are well tolerated by persons with ulcers or gastrointestinal problems.  It also makes them perfect to be eaten raw, in salads, sauces, and other cooked dishes. Sweet Bell Peppers can be dried and powdered smooth to make paprika spice, in some languages paprika refers to the fruit as well as spice. Bell Peppers are packed with many benefits, making them excellent for a healthy diet. They are rich in many vitamins and antioxidants, especially vitamins C and, A, fiber, and various carotenoids. A 100-gram (3.5 ounces) reference amount supplies 26 calories and is a rich source of vitamin C – containing 158% of the Daily Value (DV) – vitamin A (20%), and vitamin B6 (23% DV), with moderate contents of riboflavin (12%), folate (12% DV), and vitamin E (11% DV). A red bell pepper supplies twice the vitamin C and eight times the vitamin A content of a green bell pepper.[1]
