Job Position: Crop Production Officer

Job Summary

The Ecofarms seeks a diligent and passionate Crop Production Officer (CPO) to oversee and manage field operation of crop production. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, input selection, cultivation, pre-and post-harvest management, of cereal, legumes, and tuber crops value chain management, and market linkage.

Eligibility and Competence:

  • Comprehensive practical understanding of Good Agronomic Practices, emphasizing integrated pre- and post-harvest management. 
  • In-depth knowledge of field crop production (Irrigation-fed and Rain-fed). 
  • Proficiency in plant pathology. 
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. 
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, leadership, presentation, and reporting skills. 
  • Honest, with a teachable disposition and a passion for working with other farmers.
  • Familiarity with the local community and fluency in core local dialects. 

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee crop production. 
  • Develop and implement cropping plans and schedules for seasonal demands and climate variations. 
  • Pest and disease management
  • Conduct refresher training and capacity-building programs for staff and contract farmers. 
  • Carry out field trials for new inputs. 
  • Provide regular updates, reports, and management recommendations. 

Qualification and Experience:

  • A master’s, bachelor’s degree, or HND in agriculture or a related field. 
  • At least 2 years of work experience in farm management, particularly in protected farming. 
  • Proven experience in crop production, especially cereal, legumes, and tuber crops.
  •  Practical knowledge of modular farm machinery operations, agrochemicals, and post-harvest management.
  • Must be adaptable and capable of handling rigorous farm pressures and demands.
